(left middle) in Abu Dhabi with a group who invited CSP to assist
them in leading the way for a secure chemical industry in Gulf Coast
Countries. |
In my present position at Sandia, I work with chemists and
chemistry professional societies from around the world:
- International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC)
- Federation of Asian Chemical Societies
- Federation of African Societies of Chemistry
- Arab Union of Chemists
- American Chemistry Council and ACS
- Chemical societies from a number of countries including:
Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Bahrain, and
Jordan
Knowing these chemists and organizations gives me
a head start for coordinating with our international
colleagues for the International
Year of Chemistry in 2011.
As Sandia National Laboratory's International Chemical
Threat Reduction Department Manager, I lead Sandia’s
support of the U.S. Department of State Chemical
Security Engagement Program (CSP) which teaches safety
and security
to chemists and chemical engineers in universities and industry
around the world.
The goals of the program are to:
- Seek to develop and facilitate cooperative international activities
that promote best practices in chemical security and safe
management of toxic chemicals
- Provide assistance to improve chemical safety and security best
practices in laboratories
Countries worked with:
Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq,
Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, and others. Check out CSP slide show
